Our Calendar

We worship on Zoom on Sundays at 10:30am Pacific Time, with occasional specially timed services throughout the year (like on Ash Wednesday or Christmas Eve). Once a month, Holy Communion is a part of worship, and Rev. Jeanne will bless whatever beverage you bring to your computer screen. For more about what to expect in Sunday worship, take a look at this sample Order of Service, or watch a past sermon or two.

Our Healing Circle is held monthly on the last Monday of the month. To receive the Zoom link for the next Healing Circle, or get more information first, please email slhly1@aol.com.

Our Scripture Seekers meets on Zoom most Thursdays. This group is currently full. Stay tuned for details about a newcomer’s Bible Study!

FAQs

  • United Church of Hayward is a member of the United Church of Christ, a mainline Protestant Christian denomination known for its progressive theology, advocacy for social justice, and an open and affirming stance toward all people.

We are a Family-Sized, Open and Affirming, Justice-Focused, Community-Involved, Theologically-Curious, Holy Spirt-led Congregation, called to make our communities better places. We also spend a lot of time studying the scriptures, expressing gratitude, asking theological questions, supporting each other, and listening for the voice of God.

  • One of the things UCH is really proud of is that when the Pandemic came, we never missed a Sunday together in worship. Our fear of technology was overshadowed by our desire to be in community. That is a modern day miracle in the midst of a lot of tragedy and chaos. One thing we noticed is that many who would not ever be in worship were now able to join us — from other states, and even from other countries. It was incredible!

Driven by the pandemic, we decided to stay on Zoom and discern about our future. And we put our much beloved church property on the market and sold it. Our worship and programs are still thriving on Zoom, and we are able to invite so many more people to join us — including you!

  • In church terms, it signifies the denomination's welcoming stance toward people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. At UCH, we are an intentionally "Open and Affirming" Community: We choose to lavishly welcome LGBTQIA+ people.
